Woods is about to make a significant restoration from severe accidents in a automobile accident Oklahoma Information
LOS ANGELES (AP) – In a career full of notable comebacks, Tiger Woods is about to make his toughest recovery.
Woods was driving down a winding road through the coastal suburbs of Los Angeles when his SUV encountered a sign, crossed an elevated mean, and two oncoming lanes before tumbling down a causeway and stalling on its side.
The airbags deployed. A sheriff’s deputy poked his head through a hole in the windshield and saw Woods, still buckled up and in the driver’s seat.
The accident caused “significant” injuries to the entire right leg that had rods, pins and screws during what was known as a “lengthy surgical procedure” at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Anish Mahajan, the chief medical officer, said Woods shattered tibial and fibular bones in several places on his right leg. These were stabilized by a rod in the tibia. He said a combination of screws and pins were used to stabilize additional injuries in the ankle and foot.
A statement on his Twitter account said he was awake, responsive, and restful.
“I’ll say it’s very lucky that Mr. Woods got out alive,” said Carlos Gonzalez, assistant sheriff’s division for Los Angeles, who was the first to visit after a neighbor named 911.
“As if his body couldn’t take enough,” said Jon Rahm, the world’s second largest player, of the Workday Championship in Florida. “I just hope that after his recovery he can leave the hospital and still play with his children and lead a normal life.”
The single car accident was the latest setback for Woods, who at times had an unstoppable effect on the golf course with his 15 major championships and 82 record victories on the PGA Tour. He is one of the most famous sports figures in the world and at 45 years of age and a reduced schedule of nine previous operations remains the largest draw in golf.
He won the US Open in 2008 with torn knee ligaments and two stress fractures in his left leg. His personal life collapsed on Thanksgiving weekend 2009 when he was caught engaged in several extramarital affairs. He returned to win his 11th PGA Tour Player of the Year award and finish at No. 1.
And after four back surgeries that kept him away from golf for almost two years, he won the Masters for the fifth time in April 2019, a victory that is one of the great comebacks in the sport.
Now it is no longer a question of when he will play again – the master is seven weeks away – but whether he will play again.
No charges were filed and police said there was no evidence that he was harmed.
Woods was in Los Angeles over the weekend to host the Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club. Monday and Tuesday were reserved for Discovery’s own GOLFTV for Woods to give celebrities tips on how to play. A tweet on Monday featured him in a cart at Rolling Hills Country Club with comedian David Spade. He also worked with the great NBA player Dwyane Wade, who posted a video on his Instagram account.
Woods was driving to Rolling Hills on Tuesday when the accident happened.
“It’s been a great day,” said Wade Tuesday night at Turner Sports, where he’s a studio analyst. “And today I woke up so proud to be able to publish this moment for the world, like a small excerpt from our shared moment. And I took a nap and woke up to the news. You know, just like everyone out there, my thoughts and prayers are all directed to loved ones. “
Thoughts and prayers came from everywhere – from Jack Nicklaus and Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson and former Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump. Woods played golf with both of them, and Trump awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom – the Masters – in 2019 after perhaps his grand triumph, after undergoing four back surgeries.
Woods had a fifth back operation, a microdiscectomy, on December 23, just three days after playing the PNC championship with his son Charlie, who is now 12 years old. Woods also has a 13-year-old daughter, Samantha.
The news dampened the World Golf Championship in Florida, where Woods was eligible to play in good health.
“My stomach is sick,” said Justin Thomas, No. 3 in the world and among the younger players Woods has embraced. “It hurts to see one of my closest friends have an accident. Man I just hope he’s fine. “
The crash happened around 7:15 a.m. while driving his replacement vehicle from the Genesis Invitational through the upscale suburbs. Gonzalez says he sometimes catches people reaching 129 km / h in the 45-mile zone, and crashes are common.
Police said Woods was vigilant when firefighters pried open the windshield to get him out. Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the airbags had deployed and the interior of the SUV was largely intact, “giving it a pillow to survive the accident.”
Authorities said they looked for the smell of alcohol or other signs he had while under the influence of a substance and found none. They didn’t say how fast he was going.
This is the third time Woods has been involved in a car investigation. Most notoriously, the early morning after Thanksgiving in 2009, when his SUV hit a fire hydrant and hit a tree. That was the start of shocking revelations that he had cheated on his wife with several women.
In May 2017, Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of a car that was awkwardly parked on the side of the road. He was arrested on DUI charges and said he had an unexpected reaction to prescription drugs because of his back pain. Woods later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and checked into a clinic for help with prescription drugs and a sleep disorder.
Woods has not won since the Zozo Championship in Japan in the fall of 2019 and has reduced his schedule in recent years due to injuries. In addition to his five back operations, he had four operations on his left knee.
He was asked on the Riviera on CBS on Sunday if he would like to recover from his back surgery in time to play the Masters, and Woods replied, “God, I hope so. I have to go there first. “
