With the new Jurassic World Velocicoaster, offering an exhilarating hunt around the Islands of Adventure lagoon, Universal Orlando chefs have prepared their own culinary adventures for guests. Inspired by the location of the popular Jurassic Park film series, Costa Rican flavors transport guests to a tropical refuge.

The numerous restaurants throughout the Universal Orlando Resort are often inspired by different travel destinations, films, or favorite TV shows. From sitting at the table in the Today Café to immersing yourself in the magic of the Wizarding World, the food and drink add to this immersive experience. When a taste can spark the imagination, the chefs have created a dish that leaves a lasting impression.

When one thinks of the Jurassic Park franchise, the lush venue provides that visual reference, but some diners may not be familiar with the Costa Rican flavors. In many dishes, the flavors have a tropical influence, with fruits like mango and staples like plantains, rice, and beans.

Overall, Costa Rican flavors are very accessible. Without being too spicy or robust, the dishes can be refreshing, almost light. Due to the warm climate, the dishes sometimes even contain herbs to counteract the heat.

How do the chefs at Universal Orlando bring Costa Rican flavors to guests?

Eating in the theme park has become an experience for the guests. While many of the dishes are based on the familiar, the menu offers try to tempt guests to try out a new taste or a variant of the traditional.

For Universal Orlando chefs, the new dishes added as part of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster grand opening combine the familiar and the new in delicious ways. One of the dishes that people want to know the recipe about is the chicken wings.

Served with a traditional rice, beans, and plantain, the large serving of Chicken Wings has a black mojo sauce that offers just the right amount of seasoning to tempt you into another bite. While the spices aren’t hidden, the boldness builds with every bite. The mix of flavors begs the question of what all of these ingredients are and how the chefs made this bite so irresistible.

Rice, beans and plantain chips provide a balance to the plate. In a way, it makes you bite into the chicken wings one more time for that bold taste.

For a big bite, the Casado burger is a must. The burger is served on a toasted brioche bun and contains guacamole and a thick piece of pork belly. While a lot of people love bacon on a burger, the fat pork belly makes the burger even spicier. In a way, this burger is best enjoyed with a fork and knife as it’s such a big bite.

The use of the pork belly on the burger shows how the chefs at Universal Orlando are also embracing food trends. The heartier piece of bacon changes the burger experience. When diners crave a more upscale experience, this Casado Burger delivers that flavor.

Since all delicious dishes require a refreshing drink accompaniment, there are two options that you should definitely try. The Island Nectar Refresher is an exclusive Coca-Cola drink for all guests, which is available at the Coca-Cola Freestyle machines. It combines flavors of lemonade, strawberry, mango and orange with a light carbonic acid and is a thirst quencher on a hot day. In addition, the bright color is very tempting.

In combination with the Casado Burger, the Island Nectar Refresher helps to balance the richness of the burger. The fruity, but slightly tart taste makes burger, pork belly and guacamole sing.

For adults there is a special Jurassic Park-themed beer. The Isla Nubar IPA is lemony, but not overly hoppy. Similar to the Island Nectar Refresher, it goes well with the Costa Rican flavors in the new dishes.

The new Jurassic-themed meal is available at Universal’s Islands of Adventure Jurassic Park-themed restaurants. For more information on menus and mobile ordering options, please visit the Universal Orlando Resort App.
