ORLANDO, Florida – Here’s what’s happening in central Florida April 2-9.

1. Orlando’s Fiesta in the park

The Spring Fiesta, a two-day event at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando, takes place this weekend.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. It will be both Saturday and Sunday.

It is the largest arts and crafts festival in Orlando. It offers live entertainment and a wide variety of dining options.

2. Eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine is open to everyone aged 16 and over

Anyone 16 years or older can get a COVID-19 vaccine starting Monday.

“While the Biden government has set a May 1st target for vaccine approval for all adults, Florida is pleased to announce that all adults ages 18 and older will be approved for use by Monday April 5th the vaccine might be eligible, “DeSantis said.

Floridians can pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine here. After pre-registering, they will be contacted as soon as the vaccine is available in their area.

Teenagers can get the vaccine with the permission of their parents or guardians. You are only eligible for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.

3. Easter

Many people will attend sunrise services at Easter and spend time with loved ones.

The North Park Church Easter Sunrise Service will take place on site in Baldwin Park.

The event will take place on New Broad Street between Jake Street and Welham Street from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

4. The world’s tallest duel racer waterslide opened in Aquatica

Florida’s first and only duel racer opens in Aquatica this weekend.

The Riptide Race is an “adrenaline-pumping water slide race where teams compete against each other to the finish line,” said the water park.

5. Astronauts move the Crew Dragon spaceship

Four astronauts will relocate the Crew Dragon spacecraft on Monday in preparation for the arrival of new crew members in late April and the upcoming delivery of new solar panels this summer.

NASA astronauts Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover and Shannon Walker, along with astronaut Soichi Noguchi of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), will undock the resilience of the crew at 6:29 a.m. from the forward port of the station’s Harmony module and to the Create space. overlooking the harbor at 7:15 a.m.

The move will free Harmony’s forward port for the docking of Crew Dragon Endeavor, which is expected to bring four crew members to the station on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-2 mission, NASA said.

NASA astronauts Shane Kimbrough and Megan McArthur, JAXA astronaut Aki Hoshide and ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet (European Space Agency) are scheduled to launch from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on April 22.

6. Regal Cinemas will be reopening theaters this weekend

Grab your popcorn! From this weekend on, film lovers will have more theater options.

Regal Cinemas, the second largest cinema chain in the US, will be back in operation on April 2nd, said parent company Cineworld Group in a press release.

7. There will be two free food distribution events this weekend

Farm Share will be handing out groceries to families with unsafe food on Saturday.

Two locations will be open in central Florida.

Here are the locations:

  • 421 Buenaventura Blvd., Kissimmee, Fla. 34743
  • 4400 N Powers Drive, Orlando, Fla. 32818

Both locations open at 10 a.m. They are open until supplies last.

Feed the Need Florida will also be distributing food to those in need at two local schools this weekend.

Families can have a meal on Saturday and the group distributes meals directly to those in their vehicle.

The event starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. or while stocks last.

  • Eccleston Elementary School, 1500 Aaron Ave., Orlando

8. The Florida Film Festival starts this week

The Florida Film Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary. The festival takes place from April 9th ​​to 22nd at the Enzian in Maitland, in the Winter Park and online.

9. UCF celebrates the arts

The University of Central Florida is celebrating the university’s artist this week in both in-person and virtual events.

The event will take place from April 2nd to 10th at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

UCF, in partnership with the Art Center’s Frontyard Festival, will host most of the events in the new 2,000-seat outdoor area on the Dr. Phillips Center host.
