Orlando students give help with a haircut to the homeless
ORLANDO, Florida – Local Orlando barbers are partnering with the Coalition for the Homeless in Central Florida to provide free haircuts.
What you need to know
- The We Impact Foundation jointly organized events for the homeless
- They delivered up to 100 haircuts to the Coalition for the Homeless on Sunday
- The haircuts help people look professional for jobs
Juan Florentino and Steven Scott are two hairdressing students who want more than just cutting hair for clients. They founded the Together We Impact Foundation.
“Try to convey the message of hope that anything is possible. This is a newborn project, we are trying to grow it as soon as possible, ”said Florentino.
They say they want to get out in the community and make a difference. They organized the event on Sunday in the Coalition for the Homeless in Central Florida in collaboration with classmates from the Hollywood Institute and gave up to 100 free haircuts.
“It gives them the ability to look professional in the workplace and gives them the confidence to talk to specific people all day,” said Scott.
Johnny Benyard, one of the dozen to get a haircut, hopes to turn things around. “I really appreciate it.”
Benyard said he was using what we can as he got into tough times.
“I lost my job, things were down in my apartment because I lost my job because of the COVID,” said Benyard.
He was in the Coalition for the Homeless in Central Florida.
“Once you get here, there’s nothing stopping you from getting you on your own,” said Benyard.
Benyard, with coalition support and a new haircut, said it was a step in the right direction to move forward.
“I know I need the professional and I have to look good to get these jobs, so they really help me with that,” said Benyard.
Florentino and Scott are happy to help.
“Let them know that we are there for them and that we will do everything we can to help them.”
