Opening of the world’s largest freestanding White Castle draws long lines in Orlando
The White House will ban this from Tuesday
Thanks to an increased number of vaccinations and a national decrease in new daily COVID cases, the public health measures in place since the beginning of the pandemic are gradually being phased out. This includes new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) dated April 27 that fully vaccinated people can, in many cases, be outside without a mask. The reality, however, is that the fight against COVID-19 is not over yet. For this reason, the White House has announced that it will ban travel from certain locations from Tuesday, May 4th. Read on to see what’s going to be banned soon and for more information on what else to avoid, the CDC says these are the “least safe” places you are going to go right now. The White House bans most travel from India to the US starting this week. In an April 30 announcement, the White House said it would ban most travel from India to the United States based on guidelines issued by the CDC. The move comes as India continues to grapple with one of the worst active coronavirus outbreaks in the world, reporting more than 3,000 deaths a day and more than 400,000 new cases on April 29, reports the New York Times that these 6 states see domestically the worst waves of COVID. There are a few exceptions to the travel ban, including American citizens. According to the White House proclamation, the new travel restrictions would prevent all foreign nationals who have visited India in the past 14 days from entering the United States. The travel ban does not apply to American citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States, their spouses, young children or siblings, or the parents of citizens or permanent residents under the age of 21 the United States, which requires a negative COVID-19 test within three days of travel. Those who are not vaccinated have to quarantine themselves for a week after their arrival. And to learn more about how to protect yourself, the CDC says if you see this in a restaurant, don’t go in. Officials are concerned about a new variant originating in India that could affect fully vaccinated people. But it’s not just the sheer volume of cases that resulted in the White House banning travel from India to the US. Anecdotes from doctors and news reports across India have claimed that there is a new highly contagious local variant of the virus, B.1.617 The CDC reports that based on work by public health experts and scientists, these variants have characteristics of concern, which may make them more easily transmitted and have the potential for reduced protection. Some vaccines offer this, “President Joe Biden said in the proclamation. If you’d like more COVID news delivered straight to your inbox, subscribe to our daily newsletter. Similar travel bans apply nor for other countries. India is not the only country that has a travel ban in the US. A similar ordinance previously issued by the Biden government in January currently also restricts other active or previous variant hotspots for the Virus, including the UK, Ireland, Bra Silia, South Africa, Iran, China and 26 countries within the European Union. However, American citizens and legal permanent residents are also exempt from these travel bans. Some experts have suggested that the travel bans may not do the job the government hoped for. “If the goal is to prevent the introduction of this new variant 6.1.7 that is circulating in India, I can assure you that it is already here,” said Dr. Scott Gottlieb, Former Agent for the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), at Face the Nation on May 2nd. “So we’re not going to prevent it from being introduced. These travel restrictions could serve a purpose, but we need to be clear about what that purpose is now. We still have restrictions on travel from China and the US UK. That doesn’t make much sense. So I’m not sure what the overall strategy for those continued travel restrictions that we put in place is. ”And to learn more about where not to go to post-shots, the CDC warns you to avoid this one place even if you are vaccinated.
