Oklahoma Electrical Cooperative (OEC) implements rolling blackouts

An emergency reported by the Southwest Power Pool early Monday has resulted in blackouts for power customers across Oklahoma. News 9 has learned that this includes members of the Oklahoma Electric Cooperative (OEC).

In a Facebook message posted on their page, the OEC announced that customers in Newcastle had a power outage on Monday lunchtime.

The OEC added, “UPDATE: The rolling blackouts are now over. Please note that this can escalate very quickly. Be prepared and safe.”

SPP said a level 3 alert for energy and utilities in the Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas area would initiate controlled outages just after 10 a.m. Monday.

Less than three hours later, rolling blackouts began in the Oklahoma area.
