New overpass ramp opened near Orlando International Airport

ORLANDO, Fla. – Starting Thursday at 11:00 p.m., State Road 436 southbound as it approaches State Road 528 will be closed along with the eastbound and westbound ramps towards 528.

The Central Florida Expressway Authority is opening the second of two overpass ramps planned for interchange 528/436.

The new flyover will be about half a mile earlier than the current one.

“The old ring ramp goes south from State Road 436. You will continue south and circle this ring ramp to return to State Road 528 east,” said Kathy Putnam, CFX spokeswoman.

The new flyover is expected to open on Friday morning at 5:30 a.m. According to Putnam, almost 32,000 drivers use the transport hub every day.

Further construction work on the SR-528 is also in progress. They are part of the same project. An additional lane in both directions from Conway Road to Goldenrod Road should be completed by the end of 2022.

“They are in full swing with the expansion and our next major milestone for this project will be to expand 528 westward below 436,” she said.
