Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay offer many fantastic attractions for thrill seekers and the whole family! Since the theme parks are open year round, some attractions are sometimes unavailable when you visit as they are routinely maintained.
It’s important to know that while this is a list of scheduled maintenance, there are times when an attraction may unexpectedly become unavailable during your visit. Be sure to download the Universal Orlando app on your phone for the most up-to-date information on attractions as you travel.
Here’s what we know will be closed in May so you can plan accordingly!

Universal Studios Florida
- Fievel’s Playland
- Curious George goes into town
- LIVING FEAR FACTOR
Just like in April, Universal Studios Florida children’s playgrounds will remain closed. We believe this is a precaution in the midst of the pandemic as the playgrounds are ‘high touch’ areas that are often difficult to clean. We hope they will reopen in the future, but Fievel’s Playland and Curious George Goes to Town will remain closed for the time being.
In addition, Kang & Kodo’s’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl is in operation at times. So when you’re in the park, check out your Universal Orlando app to see if the attraction will be operational during your visit.

Universal islands of adventure
- If I walked the zoo
- Jurassic Park Discovery Center
- I ship the olive
- Poseidon’s anger
- Storm Force Accelatron
None of these attractions will reopen in May and will remain closed for the entire month, according to Universal.
As Islands of Adventure prepares to open the VelociCoaster on June 10th, we hope the Jurassic Park Discovery Center will reopen. The Discovery Center and the other attractions mentioned above will remain closed for the time being.
Volcano Bay is open and ready for the warmer temperatures coming to Orlando this summer! Everything in Volcano Bay is currently open, and there are currently no planned renovations to attractions in Volcano Bay in May.
These renovations listed above mainly include those experiences that are very touch sensitive and do not include rides. So there’s still plenty to do on your Universal Orlando Resort vacation!
What Else Happening at the Universal Orlando Resort? The carnival celebrations have been extended for the second time due to the great demand! If you haven’t had a chance to enjoy the food and entertainment that is on offer at Universal Studios Florida for Mardi Gras, we highly recommend visiting before the new May 2nd end date.
