Illinois makes a great counter offer to keep Orlando Antigua from playing British Wildcats basketball

Just when it looked like Kentucky had reached a reunion with Orlando Antigua, Illinois makes a late push to keep the coveted assistant coach.

According to KSR’s Matt Jones, Illinois made a counteroffer that would make Antigua the highest-paid assistant coach in all of college basketball.

Adam Zagoria says it’s a deal that would pay Antigua over $ 1 million a season.

Two sources report to KSR that Illinois made a “substantial” counteroffer to Orlando Antigua to keep it in Champagne

If Kentucky fits, he’ll likely end up in Lexington. The offer would make him the highest paid assistant coach in college basketball

This should come as no surprise considering what Kyle Tucker covered on The Athletic today. Tucker says Kentucky was already ready to give Antigua a deal that could make him the highest paid assistant in America. So it looks like that’s exactly what needs to be done to get Coach O back to Lexington.

The deal with Antigua, an ace recruiter who played a key role in the glory days of the Calipari era in Kentucky, is all but closed and could make him the highest paid assistant in college basketball.

Kentucky is already in a fight for Chin Coleman, an assistant from Illinois, and it looks like another fight is going to intensify to secure Antigua’s services.

Given that Kentucky has already lost Tony Barbee and Joel Justus, it’s hard to see John Calipari let Antigua slip away so late in the game.
