The annual Paws in the Park Festival returns to Lake Eola for another year.

The 27th annual event starts on Saturday, May 8th, at 10 a.m. and is free for all animal lovers and their fur babies. The pet festival is hosted each year by the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, the area’s oldest and largest animal welfare agency, to raise funds to care for thousands of dogs and cats in central Florida.

“We are very excited to bring back our biggest event of the year, Paws in the Park,” said Steve Bardy, Executive Director of the Pet Alliance, in a press release. “Although the past year was unique, we were still able to adopt, rescue, and promote thousands of dogs and cats.”

The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando was originally founded in 1937 as the Orlando Humane Society. Today the organization focuses on dogs and cats in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties. Their locations provide dogs and cats in the region with food and medical care and house more than 5,000 abandoned and homeless animals.

As part of their services, Pet Alliance also offers low cost spay and neuter surgery, as well as general animal health care.

Their protection programs are fully supported by donations from the community. As of Tuesday, Paws in the Park had already met 46% of its $ 80,000 fundraising goal.

The festival offers fun events for all participants – four-legged or otherwise. According to the press release, there will be bait courses for dogs of all sizes, photo stations, a dog fun zone, a costume contest, a dealer market, food trucks and Pet Alliance merch.

Those looking to adopt in the market will have many options at the festival. There will also be virtual aspects for those who prefer to participate from home. Human participants must wear masks and social distance.

Pet Alliance encourages attendees to register and start fundraising right away. Participants who collect $ 15 will receive a commemorative bandana, while those who collect $ 75 will receive the 2021 Paws in the Park T-shirt.

“We certainly have a lot to celebrate with our animal-loving community and a great mission that we can continue to fundraise for,” said Bardy. “We look forward to seeing everyone and their valued pets again at Lake Eola. Unforgettable and safe day for everyone.”
