The national advocacy group March for Our Lives and a number of local activist groups are joining forces for a drive-through protest event to raise awareness of the anti-protest legislation currently under consideration in Florida law.
The “Drive-in rally to save the protest” will take place on Friday, March 26th at 6pm for Tinker Field. The drive-through demonstration against HB 1 – the governor and Republican legislature-backed anti-protest bill, also known as a solution to a problem – goes the same week that the bill is on the floor of the house should be heard.
The House Democratic Caucus voted 41-0 against HB 1, and critics across the country say the bill is excessive and would stifle legitimate protests and demonstrations.
“It criminalizes peaceful protest and hurts black and brown organizers who are always there trying to bring about change for a more equal and just Florida,” said Monique Mendez, communications director of March For Our Lives, of the bill passed by WMFE last week .
Featured speakers include state (and-to-be-confirmed) state and local officials, area activists, and a performance by Brooklyn’s Phony Ppl, who recently worked with Megan Thee Stallion on the “Fkn Around” series.
The event will also serve as a pop-up food drive, with hot meals and free groceries for those in need.
This rally is a free event but it is recommended that you register using this link.
