Deadly twister in North Carolina; bitter chilly sweeps plains | Oklahoma Information

At least three people were killed after a tornado struck a coastal North Carolina city as millions of people in Texas stayed in the dark in sub-zero temperatures early Tuesday.

The deadly tornado, in which at least 10 people were injured according to the authorities, struck shortly after midnight in southeast Brunswick County near Grissettown in the Ocean Ridge Plantation Community on Tuesday. The tornado destroyed homes, crashed power lines that left thousands without power, and tore trees in half, news outlets reported.

“It’s something I’ve never seen before. Lots of destruction. It will be a long recovery process, “Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram said at a news conference early Tuesday.

Brunswick County’s emergency management said people were trapped in homes. Ingram said the search for missing people is ongoing and will increase as the day progresses. He has asked people to avoid the area while the crews work to clear the streets and look for victims.

In Texas, nearly 4 million households and businesses were without power as of early Tuesday, where overnight temperatures were in the single digits.

In Houston, a woman and a girl died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning in a home without power from a car that drives in an attached garage, police said.
